This was our second week of homeschool, and I knew right away that I had picked the wrong bible verses for us to use with our “Letter a Week” program.
A lot of the things I use with the boys comes from my own alphabet files that have been around for 20 years. I also have some more recent things that I bought or downloaded from other homeschool bloggers. I bought the Letter a Week curriculum from Erica at Confessions of a Homeschooler, which comes with bible verses to go along with each letter. The first week, we learned Mark 12:30 “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.” Piggy One picked it up right away. Even though he is only 3, he remembered it. I love his rendition. “Love your God with all your heart, with all your souls, and with all your brain.” Good enough for me! It was an easy one because the only hard concept to grasp was your soul.
This week, we were trying to learn Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” This one was a little more difficult. He doesn’t know about wages. He does know about sins, but not sins punishable by death – or even about death. His cat of 3 years is still living. As far as he’s concerned, he’s invincible and doesn’t need to worry about eternal life. So this one was a little hard for a 3 year old to grasp. I knew I needed to backtrack and find some verses a little more the speed of a toddler.
After searching, I did find an easy ABC list of verses here. I also pinned some that I would like to look at for next year. There is a book on Amazon that I may get for Piggy One after he learns these.
What I wanted were little cards that I could put on a ring and flip though. I also wanted another set to string up and display in the kitchen, which is where we do our bible study and memory verse practice in the mornings. So, I took this list and made my own.
I made them this afternoon while the boys were all playing outside. It was my intention to make a copy of ones that were a little more ink friendly, but didn’t get those completed. Little Piggy Two had a fall and skinned both knees. Mommy duties came first!
